Grace is a young woman who, having lost her parents at an early age, assumed management of her family’s inn as well as responsibility for her younger brother Sebastian. Capable, strong-willed, and dedicated to maintaining the legacy of Gilder’s Inn, Grace is even more devoted to her brother. She works hard, but occasionally dreams of meeting a man wise and strong enough to share her life and ease her burdens. In the meantime, Grace is sustained by her practical but optimistic outlook, and a good sense of humor.

Sebastian, Grace’s younger brother, helped out the family by becoming tavernkeeper at the age of sixteen. He has developed into quite a well-liked figure in the district, due to his lively wit and tender heart. He idolizes his sister for her strength and determination, and supports her with his endless good cheer. Sebastian is likewise dedicated to the inn, but also hopes one day to find both love and adventure.

Liam is the first of the trio of mysterious travelers who arrive at the inn on their way to make petition at the Temple of Love. Startlingly handsome and charming, the young gentleman quickly sweeps Grace off her feet. Nevertheless, not everything makes sense about Liam; his intentions are mysterious, and certainly his relationship with his companions has its peculiarities.

Nessa, Liam’s sister, is likewise amazingly attractive and appears to have a sweet disposition. In spite of their wealth and her obvious charms, Nessa is shy and somewhat withdrawn. Her relationship with her brother, although amicable on the surface, is complex. While Grace and Sebastian--especially the latter--are drawn to the girl, they also wonder about her story.

Finn is the third mysterious member of the traveling party, another wealthy and attractive gentleman who otherwise has nothing in common with the affable Liam. Off-putting and forbidding, he nevertheless is somehow tied up in the affairs of his companions. We soon learn enough about Finn and his compromised desires to be wary of his true motivations.

Helena is the first Roican whom we encounter, a Purebred descendant of the First Parents of the race, Ireogot and Heroica. Daughter of a respectable, honorable and wealthy family, Helena has rebelled against her upbringing by her obsessive devotion to a powerful and self-serving Roican named Artin. She personifies the struggle of the Roican race to choose between living ethically or abusing their power to take advantage of mortals.

Ireogot, First Father of the Roicans, is centuries old but young in spirit. Affectionate and romantic by nature, he nevertheless wields supreme power and is not afraid to use it in his determination to keep his race on the right path. His intimate love bond with his wife and Blood Mate, Heroica, is the source of the Roican race’s immortality and power.

Heroica, ancient First Mother of the Roicans, is united with her husband in her dedication to keeping the race on the path of goodness. A lover of music and of logic, her reasoning abilities are so astute that she is nearly a prophetess. Heroica is always happy to involve herself in the affairs of mortals as well as those of her immense family, to whom she is devoted.
